TURKEY HUNTERS URGED TO HUNT SAFELY AND CAREFULLY
Every fall, some turkey hunter somewhere in Pennsylvania makes a poor
shooting decision or
mishandles his or her sporting arm. The allocation proposals will begin to be formulated after the
agency
is able to review the final deer harvests figures for the 2004-2005 seasons,
which will
be available in mid-March.
The change, which must be approved in April, would allow for a special
drawing
of applications submitted by junior license holders prior to the regular
drawing for goose

"At this time, the Board has determined that we must stay the course in

Those

the data collected at
the deer processors by the deer teams to cross-reference with the harvest

the animals,"
said Vern Ross, Game Commission executive director. "Therefore, it is imperative that

346 females) in
York, southern Lancaster, southern Berks, and Chester
Counties. The law defines a blind as "any artificial

In Greene County, WCO Rod Burns offered a different assessment. "A dry
spring should have really benefited the nesting success of these big birds,
but unfortunately
sightings are way down again this year," he noted. If nuts are plentiful, turkeys will be dispersed

"Grape production seemed to be very good this year.
However, we must continue to utilize all available

is
seeking to prevent an uncontrolled number of hunters who do not fill their
deer tags during
the regular seasons from flooding the woods during the late
season, and thereby losing the agency
's ability to ensure that there is not an
overharvest of does in any given WMU.
The Board also
gave preliminary approval to a regulatory measure that
would make any DMAP permit holder who failed
to complete and submit the
mandatory harvest report and survey information from the prior season
ineligible for future coupons/permits and refunds.
