Midland plans to use the new AmSafe
Aviation Inflatable Restraint (AAIR(R)) equipped Skyhawk for training
student pilots enrolled in the school 's professional pilot program.
According to AmSafe AAIR general manager Joe Smith, the seatbelt
airbags are equipped with sensors that activate a compressed helium
gas bottle that inflates a lightweight fabric airbag within
milliseconds of a 9g or greater event.
The AmSafe AAIR seat belt airbag system has been flying on
commercial aircraft since 2001. AAIR-equipped aircraft now include the
Airbus A319-112, A320-214, A321-211, A330-200, A340-500, and A340-600;
Boeing 777-200ER, and 747-400; Bombardier CRJ700; and British
Aerospace Jetstream 41.
