citizens to learn about rare wildlife and foster stewardship of the

Wildlife Foundation of NJ, the non-profit arm of the Endangered and Nongame
Species Program.
A question will appear on the May 17 ballot asking voters to authorize a
$625 million bond issue for Growing Greener II, which would allow funding for
such initiatives as: improving state parks; preserving natural areas and open
spaces; protecting working farms; cleaning up rivers and streams; revitalizing
older communities; improving local recreation facilities; and repairing fish
hatcheries and other habitat-related facilities. The effort will focus on
capturing small-footed bats and tracking them to roost sites, determine
nighttime habitat usage and travel patterns. An advisory group,
comprised of Game Commission and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission staff,
review and rank projects, and then secure Board of Commissioners approvals for
selected projects.

data they collect will help state biologists develop a long-term survival
strategy for the cat, an endangered species in the state.njfishandwildlife. Funds from the program have supported: reintroducing
otters, osprey, peregrine falcons and fishers to Pennsylvania; identifying new
plant and animal species; locating rare plant species; researching habitat for
migrating birds; and providing education materials to schools.
