experienced a near-fatal rail accident November 13 when a remote controlled
Union Pacific locomotive smashed into an inbound freight container train.
The accident in the rail yard near the Port of Tacoma on Puget Sound
resulted in the puncturing the engine's fuel tanks, and causing two cars to
derail. "We know that many of our rail members observe remote control
rail engines that are kept in unsecured locations on a daily basis and that
hazardous materials travel through their rail yards on most days. Additionally, 61 communities have passed remote
control locomotive safety resolutions.

Transportation announced today that it received an order from
Trenitalia (Italian Railways) for the supply of 100 E464 electric
locomotives. This new contract comes after an initial order for
50 units placed in 1996 followed by three additional options for 90,
100 and 48 units received in 1999 , 2001 and 2003, respectively.5 MW and
a top-speed of 160 km/h, the E464 product represents state -of-the-art
technology for medium-power 3kV DC locomotives. In Italy, the E-type
