- The survey also explored whether the public in these countries feels
that the present generation of Germans should feel jointly responsible

school students from low- and moderate-income families.

Other findings from the poll include:
- When asked whether they talk about World War II with their families,
adults in most countries said these discussions take place occasionally
or frequently. For example, Neville Chamberlain gets
high recognition in Great Britain (80%), Edouard Daladier is somewhat

Interactive Global Network member company, conducted a survey of over 20,000
adults in 13 countries to gauge their knowledge and attitudes about World War
II.

In the United States and Western Europe the percentages range from seven
to 16 percent who say they frequently talk about the war to 47 to 61
percent who say they do so occasionally.

- People in most of the countries say that they are reasonably
well-informed about events before 1945 . However, one must be careful in interpreting
these numbers. For example, it is important to note that Spain did not
participate in World War II and yet five percent say that they have
close relatives who died in the war.

United States: The Harris Poll(R) was conducted online by Harris
Interactive within the United States between May 4 and 10, 2005 among a
nationwide cross section of 2,322 adults (aged 18 and over).

Sampling Error:
In theory, with probability samples of this size, one could say with 95
percent certainty that the results for the overall sample have a sampling
error of plus or minus 2 to 3 percentage points (see below).
