This survey has been conducted in the six biggest countries of the
EU (Germany , France, UK, Italy, Spain and Poland, which represent 75%
of the EU population) from February 24th to March 8th with national
representative samples of the population aged 18 and over in all
countries (1 000 interviews in each country).

Second conclusion: concerning the present official position of the
EU, which agreed to open negotiations with Turkey but is still against
the possible accession of Ukraine, Europeans:

are only 9% to consider that it is right

Third conclusion: regarding the arguments about Ukraine , we can
see that:

-- Europeans in favour of the accession of Ukraine explain their
position because "Ukraine is part of Europe" (39%) and because "this
accession would strengthen democracy in Ukraine" (36%)

-- Europeans against the accession of Ukraine explain their
position because "Ukraine will have to strive harder in terms of
democracy" (40%) and because "Ukraine is a poor country , its accession
would be a handicap for the EU" (36%) but also because "I'm against
the enlargement of the EU" (31%).

and 50%).
