society that is truly human, how should we care for those most helpless

A year ago Pope John Paul II answered this question, when he reaffirmed
that "the administration of food and water, even when provided by artificial
means," should be considered "morally obligatory" as long as it provides
nourishment and alleviates suffering for such patients.
We pray this human tragedy will lead our nation to a greater commitment to
protect helpless patients and all the weakest among us.

volunteers met with legislators at the main capitol building to advocate
funding for tobacco prevention and cessation programs and the passage of
colorectal cancer screening legislation in the fight against lung and
colorectal cancers. Currently, the legislature is looking to redirect these
monies away from these important programs, which include
community -based counseling and the Pennsylvania Free Quitline.
