Debut Celebrates National Poetry Month

WASHINGTON, VSA arts today launched an interactive
online literary journal showcasing creative writing by students ages 11-18 ,
with a connection to disability.vsarts.
The call for flash fiction and poetry asked students to "explore the
beauty in variety, perceived imperfections, and the infinite complexities of
'difference.

Sponsored by international nonprofit World Culture Open, the Festival
is raising nearly $50,000 for UN FAO's efforts to build a world without
hunger.
This is World Culture Open's second appearance at Lincoln Center, having
hosted the World Culture Open Awards Ceremony at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher
Hall in 2004 to celebrate the inaugural awarding of three $100,000 Peace
Prizes for Arts and Culture.

Belendez, a young poet from Mexico with cerebral palsy, whose story was
featured on NBC Dateline.
"We hope Ekiwah 's work and personal story provide a backdrop for the
important literary contributions of young people around the world," said Soula
Antoniou, president of VSA arts.
