books they can take home and keep, First Book-Houston targets the
only variable that correlates significantly
with reading scores, the
number of books in one's home. First
Book-Houston's Local Advisory Board
unites leaders from all sectors of
the community who volunteer and distribute new books to literacy
programs, and other community based programs in an effort to help
children of at-risk families
start their own home libraries. It is a professional touring company that produces fully
staged portable
operas in English for students in Kindergarten through
7th grade.
